Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business

Twelfth Month, 11th day, 2005

Minute 1: Sixteen Friends gathered for Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business.

Minute 2: Meeting began with a period of worship, and a reading of a quotation from Hebrews 10:24-25. . .

Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together…but encouraging one another.

…and then a query from LEYM to be included with responses from other meetings for the Representative Meeting in March

As a Meeting how do we support each other in being faithful?

Friends joined in mutual exploration of faith and faithfulness in individual and community contexts. Nancy R. will bring a summary to the next Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business.

Minute 3: The Meeting has read with gladness the letter from Peter C. and Conle th C. requesting membership for Jabiri W. C. C. in Cleveland Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. The Meeting delights that he is brought under our care.

Minute 4: The Treasurer brought the financial report completely balanced through the end of October. The Meeting has finished paying for the roof. Some committees still have money available. The Meeting has started to do on-line banking to save money. We are currently still running a small deficit and Friends are encouraged to make their year-end donations. Copies of the financial report are posted on the bulletin board in the hallway.

Minute 5: The Meeting expresses its deep gratitude to Susan B. She has graciously contributed to the financial clarity of the Meeting by setting up systems and mentoring the Treasurer in journaling entries and reconciling accounts. The Meeting is grateful for her generosity.

Minute 6: Ministry and Oversight Committee is planning a retreat with Arthur Larabee from Philadelphia Yearly Meeting on facilitating Quaker Process. The retreat will be held at the Meeting House on Friday evening, Jan 27th and Saturday, January 28th, during the day only. Friends who have participated in this retreat previously say this will be a good use of our time. As it is a community building event, the more Friends who come, the stronger the community will be. A children’s program will be developed. If you have suggestions or find your way clear to help with the children’s program or preparation, please contact someone on M&O.

More discussion and learning is needed by the Meeting to understand and be faithful to Quaker process and stewardship of the Meeting.

Minute 7: There will be two memorial services for Bob Edgerton. The first is at St. Paul’s on Monday, December 19th at 11:00 am. The church is at the corner of Fairmount and Coventry in Cleveland Hts. The Meeting is planning a Memorial in the manner of Friends on Sunday afternoon, January 22nd at 2:00 pm.

Minute 8: A committee will write a Memorial Minute that memorializes what Bob’s life exemplifies for us in Cleveland Meeting. Marty G., George S., Betsy W., David G., Lynn C. will form the Committee.

Minute 9: FGC Development Committee has requested a Meeting in Cleveland in mid-September. Friends have agreed to offer hospitality to the 10 – 12 persons attending. There will be opportunities for worship with the Meeting as well as a possible workshop on Stewardship. This sounds like a nice opportunity for us. More details will be forthcoming.

Minute 10: There will be Christmas caroling before Meeting on first day, December 18th at 10:00.

Minute 11: Sue N. will follow up with Cindy M. on the First Call for Help sign for the doors.

Minute 12: Meeting closed with a few moments of Silence.

Minute 13: The next Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business will be 15th day, first month, 2006 (1/15/2006). Pot luck will stay on the last day of each month. Reminder: There will be no pot luck on Christmas Day.
